                                          **SUSPENDED AS OF 9/30/11 DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS**

                                          The Refugee Healthy Marriage program, now in it's 8th year, is dedicated to helping Cambodian refugees establish more loving, stable relationships with their spouse, become more socially knowledgeable and empowered individuals in US society, and create strong families that support one another in meeting the challenges of acculturation. Through our program, we have helped more than 800 Cambodian refugees save broken relationships, end arguments with their children, even get their finances in order.

                                          CAA has the privilege of working closely with refugee families that have lived through crises or who need to adjust to their present life style. When families come to a new culture, it’s important for them to choose which old rules might need adjustment and which new rules should be added. In healthy families, parents need to create a support system that involves: sticking together, helping children through cultural adjustments, and growing-up well in their new country.

                                          Our workshops are led by Dany Man, who holds a Bachelor's degree in Community Action and has been performing counseling and training sessions to Cambodian and mainstream clients for over 12 years. Workshops focus on:
                                          -helping Khmer (Cambodian) couples understand and improve their own communication patterns;
                                          -building skills in speaking and listening in a way that produces positive results, not anger;
                                          -resolving conflicts in a mutually beneficial way; and
                                          -handling tension safely.

                                          Workshops are most effective when both wife and husband are present, but are beneficial to any individual. Even those with healthy relationships can learn how to prevent conflicts before they occur. The communication skills and cultural lessons we teach are far-reaching and can be used to become a better parent, a more confident job applicant, or more relaxed when talking to your child's teacher. CAA uses the Power of Two Curriculum.

                                          In our workshops, parents can stay in charge with positive discipline - keeping children safe, and enhance their relationships, by  developing: positive communication skills, positive listening skills, anger management, and conflict resolution skills.
